I’ve tried Turkish Restaurant, once when I was in London but I forgot the restaurant’s name. In general for the whole stories ..I think I like it! So one time at the boring weekend, me and the girls tried one of the Turkish Restaurant here located in Kemang. Anatolia Restaurant.
So when you walk into the restaurant, you will see the waiters, wearing Middle Eastern uniform and greet you with a generous smile at the reception area, ready to guide you to your table. Starting to look at the menu and place our order, the guy nods and grunts a few meaningless words and slaps some greasy meat on a steaming hot pita bread already sitting on a plastic plate and throws it on your table.
They decorated the restaurant with Turkish ornaments, with lampshades in the shape of traditional Turkish hats hang in a line down the center of the room and a hooker ( it’s a water pipe) is sitting temptingly in the corner of the bar, for me it’s just a chic accommodating place to be.
Allright then, let’s talk about what they have it with their original Turkish recipes, firstly me and the girls picked a set of appetizers comprising of finger borek , it’s a fried fetta and cheddar cheese rolled up in filo pastry, we got muttabal like a mashed grilled eggplant mixed with garlic lemon and yogurt but some people call it babaganoush; Taboule, its a crunchy tingling Parsley salad adds a fresh element amongst the mellowness of the bread and the dips; sambousa it’s a vegetable or chicken, a stack of pita breads with buttered nuts and olive hummus, mmm...yummy baby.
Forget it about cholesterol things, called Shawarma Iskendar, it’s a rice and pita bread topped with mutton, tomato butter and pure yogurt sauces is heaven on a stick this is one of their signature dishes. Move on, we had Chicken and Lamb Sish Kebab, they are simple and fresh. You have to ask the waiter to grill them not to overcook cuz the local chicken breast as it tends to be too tough and become a bit difficult to swallow. Well, they also have a choice of chicken, mutton or you can choose vegetable curry, which are very tasty, but actually it is too hot for me.
Move on to the dessert part. When I was in Turkish Restaurant in London, we ended up the dessert with Baskin Robbin ice cream, right combination isn’t it?? We don’t care, cuz for the first time we arrived there, Baskin Robbin store was so eye-catching for us, which is the store just the next door of the restaurant but before that my auntie and our driver tempted with the original Turkey Coffee, I asked our driver how’s the taste, and he said "Taste like Turkey land, mba"...huh, what was that?? Ok here, we tempted with their Sobiyett, a walnut curd wrapped in syrup soaked filo pastry. We also had dessert of Baklava (which I ever tried once, I got from my boyfriend when he was in Dubai, very sweet but nice, I really like it) which completes the meal with a sweet touch of candied Pistachio nuts packaged in filo pastry, wonderful dessert that I never had for almost a month.
We have a great time and having a wonderful dinner with a great value on our weekend. The price is very reasonable, worth it for the quality of the food, service, and decoration. Wanna see our bill??
